I have spent thirty years placing, finishing, and directing concrete. I hold an AI Project Management Certificate from Google. I use AI in my estimating workflow every week. My bids get built from my own numbers — cubic yards per crew per day, linear feet of curb per shift, actual pump-day cost with wait time and washout. When I hand those to an AI tool and let it stress-test the schedule and cost curve, I get a very strong draft in minutes. When people let the AI use its default database, they get a confident number that is quietly wrong. Every time.
AI will not replace the estimator. It will replace the estimator who doesn't know where their unit prices come from.

But if we let the software make the decisions that belong to the superintendent on the deck at 4 a.m., we are going to end up with buildings that look right on a screen and behave wrong in the world.
The role of the experienced field leader is not shrinking. It is changing shape. The best builders in the next decade will be the ones who can stand on a deck, read a mix truck at a glance, and also cross-examine an AI schedule and know which recommendation to trust. That is the job. That is what I am building toward.
